Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of children with Bell palsy.Methods A retrospective analysis was performed in 53 pediatric patients with Bell palsy admitted in Chifeng Hospital of Inner Mongolia from January 2005 to December 2018,including the patient′s gender,age,affected site,severity,treatment and the results of the last visit.Results Thirty-eight patients received steroid therapy(treatment course 7 d),15 received steroid(treatment course 7 d) and antiviral drugs(treatment course 5-7 d).Out of 53 cases,30 patients (56.6%) recovered completely,21 patients (39.6%)recovered partially,and 2 patients (3.8%) did not recovered.Evaluation at 30 days after treatment,there were no significant differences in gender,affected side,initial severity of facial paralysis and time interval from onset to treatment between the patients with complete recovery and the patients with partial recovery (including 21 cases of partial recovery and 2 cases of non recovery)(P>0.05).The age of patients in complete recovery group was significantly lower than that in partial recovery group［(8.8±4.2) years vs (12.2±3.0) years,t=3.289,P<0.01 ］.Conclusion For the children with Bell palsy,gender,affected side of face and treatment time have no effects on the recovery rate,and younger age may be a good prognostic factor for the rapid recovery.
