Abstract:Objective To systematically evaluate the relevant studies on risk factors for new onset type 2 diabetes in patients with acute and chronic pancreatitis. Methods A computerized search of Chinese and English databases was performed to screen case-control studies that met the inclusion criteria:the subjects in the case group were patients with new onset type 2 diabetes among acute and chronic pancreatitis,the subjects in the control group were patients with uncomplicated type 2 diabetes among acute and chronic pancreatitis,the included studies were qualitatively assessed,the data were extracted and meta-analysis and systematic review were performed using Review Manager5.3. Results The final 7 articles met the inclusion criteria,including 4 high-quality articles with 4 618 included patients,and the results of the meta-analysis showed that being male,having a history of alcohol consumption,older age at first hospitalization,older age at first episode,having a history of smoking,more tobacco use,more ethanol intake,severe pancreatitis,and alcoholic pancreatitis were risk factors for new onset type 2 diabetes in patients with acute and chronic pancreatitis. Conclusion Targeting the major risk factors with corresponding preventive measures to enhance the follow-up management of acute and chronic pancreatitis is beneficial to reduce the incidence of new onset type 2 diabetes in patients with pancreatitis.
